Silkisha was referred to the College Access Center by DreamYard, an arts-based community building and civic engagement project for young people living in the Bronx. She received 1:1 college advising from the College Access Center and enrolled at SUNY Old Westbury as an EOP student. At SUNY – Old Westbury, Silkisha was the President of the Women United Club and a Teacher’s Assistant for a freshmen placement class called Campus C.A.R.E.S.S. (Concerned with Awareness Relating Education and Sex to Students). After graduating from college, she was excited when offered the position of Sexual Health Educator. Silkisha’s future career goal is to open a not-for profit organization directed towards adolescents. She would also love to write a book on self-love directed towards young girls of color.
