Mariel Charles has joined New Settlement as Division Director of Organizing, overseeing both CASA and the Parent Action Committee (PAC). Mariel’s organizing roots began in the classroom, where she witnessed the systemic challenges facing students and families. Her work has spanned education, child welfare, and community development, always centering grassroots leadership and community voice. Mariel is also deeply connected to New Settlement—she first engaged with our College Access Center as a teenager and was a long-time resident of New Settlement Apartments. Her leadership will focus on strengthening the organizing infrastructure and supporting staff and community members to lead transformative change.
