Bronx Times: Tenants protest conditions at 1072 Woodycrest Ave

Tenants at 1072 Woodycrest Ave have been living without gas since January and without reliable elevator service for years. Their landlord recently swapped out their gas stoves for electric ones and is fixing their elevator all because he has plans to apply for an MCI to make tenants pay more rent for services they didn’t receive for months and years!

Displacement tactics like this–forcing tenants to live without services or repairs for years and using loopholes like MCIs to increase rent–are increasing in the wake of the Jerome Ave rezoning’s approval. This is what anti-gentrification work looks like–tenants organizing to fight for affordable rent and decent living conditions so they can stay in their homes!
