But there are still spaces left in many of the programs, so don&#8217;t hesitate to get in touch if you or young women you know want to join! Here is a <strong>recap of the Fall offerings<\/strong> &#8211; also available to download.<\/p>\n<p><b>Fall 2017 PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONS<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Unless otherwise noted, programs meet at 1525 Townsend Ave. in one of our two basement program spaces<\/p>\n<p><b>Project VIP <\/b>(<b>V<\/b>oice,<b> I<\/b>dentity, <b>P<\/b>ower),\u00a0 <b>grades 6th-12th (Mondays <\/b><b>AND <\/b><b>Wednesdays, 4:30-6pm)\u00a0\u00a0<\/b>Dramatic writing and performance project. Participants read and discuss poetry, literature and current events; write collaboratively and perform their own scenes, poems, and sometimes short films. <i>Fall, spring &amp; summer semesters<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p><b>G.O.A.L. <\/b>(<b>G<\/b>irls <b>O<\/b>rganize to <b>A<\/b>chieve <b>L<\/b>eadership),<b> ages 14+; must be enrolled in HS.\u00a0 <\/b>Do right for yourself AND <b>earn a monthly stipend <\/b>with perfect or near-perfect attendance in the following program components (must participate in both to earn stipend):\u00a0\u00a0<b>Taking Care of Business<\/b><sup>SM<\/sup>, (every<b> Monday, 6:30-8pm<\/b>) meets at 1514 Townsend Ave, Community Room 1. Take control of your relationships &amp; future! This reproductive health program helps you set personal goals &amp; protect yourself against STIs &amp; unwanted pregnancies. Developed by Girls Inc.\u00a0 <i>Sept-Dec only;<\/i> <i>in spring this program is replaced with <\/i>Living Safe &amp; Strong, <i>which provides self-defense training and conflict resolution skills. <\/i><strong>PLUS\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><b>College Explorers<\/b><b>, <\/b>(2 <b>Tuesdays<\/b> per month <b>6:30-8pm<\/b>) Considering your options? Learn more about how to prepare for college, apply and get financial aid. Juniors also visit schools and prep for SATs in spring semester. Meets at 1514 Townsend Ave, Community Rooms. <i>October 2017-May 2018<\/i><\/p>\n<p><b>Girl Talk<\/b><b>, grades 6th-8th (Tuesdays, 4:30-5:45pm)\u00a0<\/b>Building a healthy body, mind and soul! Increases self-esteem, communication skills and community engagement (through service opportunities), helping girls to make healthy, informed decisions. <i>September 2017\u2014May 2018.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><b>Sadie Nash Leadership Project: Sisterhood Academy,<\/b><b> grades 9th-12th (Tuesday, 5-6:30pm)\u00a0\u00a0<\/b>Come participate in activity based workshops around identity, leadership, media, healthy relationships, wellness, youth activism and social justice. Using your own life experiences as a starting point, discuss important issues while building a community of support. Come join the sisterhood!\u00a0 <b>Stipend <\/b>(based on attendance) paid at the end of each semester.\u00a0 <i>September \u2013 December 2017.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><b>G.R.O.W.N. (Girls Reach Out &amp; Write Naturally)<\/b><b>, ages 14-YA <\/b>(Wednesdays, 6:30-8pm) **moves to Tues evening starting Nov 14! Becomes \u201cSilence Out Loud,\u201d poetry workshop led by phenomenal slam poet Roya Marsh.\u00a0Find your own voice and hone your skills on the page; experiment with <b>free-writing, poetry &amp; prose.<\/b> <i>This program will be supplemented with poetry workshops led by published female poets and MCs!<\/i><\/p>\n<p><b>Next Level Dancers:\u00a0<\/b>Come join the Next Level Dancers and learn, create and perform some fierce choreography! Primary dance styles include Hip-Hop and Contemporary.\u00a0\u00a0 <i>September 2017\u2013 June 2018.\u00a0\u00a0<\/i><b>Junior Company,<\/b> <b>ages 10-14 <\/b>(<b>Thursdays, 6:30-8:30pm<\/b>) meets at 1514 Townsend Ave, Community Room 1.\u00a0<b>Senior Company ages 14+ <\/b>(<b>Saturdays, 12:30-3:30pm<\/b>) New Settlement Community Center, 1501 Jerome Ave.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Program for Girls &amp; Young Women is off to a great start for the Fall 2017 semester, and classes are underway.
