Our members and leaders fought hard and won critical fights for Bronx residents and tenants across the city.<\/p>\n<p>The power we built in 2016:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>More than <strong>4,019 people<\/strong> attended a CASA event in the Bronx!<\/li>\n<li>We mobilized <strong>over 1,000 people in one week<\/strong> to attend two important hearings on Right to Counsel and on the Jerome Ave rezoning!<\/li>\n<li>We joined <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/185171136\">hundreds of Bronx residents, workers, and faith leaders<\/a><\/strong> who rallied, demonstrated and then <strong>testified for 8 hours<\/strong> at the first official hearing on the City\u2019s plan for rezoning Jerome Avenue demanding <strong>No Plan but Our Plan<\/strong>!<\/li>\n<li>We filled the steps and chambers of City Hall for a <strong>historic City Council hearing on Right to Counsel<\/strong> where <strong>80 people testified for 7 hours<\/strong> and we celebrated that the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2016\/09\/23\/opinion\/a-right-to-a-lawyer-to-save-your-home.html?mwrsm=Email&amp;_r=1\">New York Times editorial board endorsed Right to Counsel!<\/a><\/li>\n<li>We won a historic <strong>RENT FREEZE<\/strong> a second year in a row and turned out <strong>500 Bronx residents<\/strong> to testify at the Bronx RGB Hearing!<\/li>\n<li>We held over <strong>340 tenant meetings<\/strong> in more than 60 buildings that more than <strong>2,245 tenants attended<\/strong>!<\/li>\n<li>We knocked on more than <strong>6,500 doors<\/strong>!<\/li>\n<li>CASA Leaders attended two international conferences\u2013the W<strong>orld Social Forum in Montreal<\/strong> and the <strong>Eviction Tribunal in Quito<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>We hosted our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/pg\/CASABronx\/photos\/?tab=album&amp;album_id=1129009560546032\">Second Annual Gala<\/a> that <strong>250 allies and members attended<\/strong> which raised <strong>$35,000<\/strong>!<\/li>\n<li>We organized over <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/casapower.org\/news\/\">31 press actions<\/a><\/strong>!<\/li>\n<li>We had over<strong> 55 meetings with elected officials and government agencies<\/strong>!<\/li>\n<li>We reached almost <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/CASABronx\">1,500 likes of Facebook<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/casabronx\">1,000 followers on Twitter<\/a><\/strong>!<\/li>\n<li>We formed <strong>two new tenant coalitions to<\/strong> fight unjust landlords and practices. The coalitions represent 14 buildings where 1,187 families live!<\/li>\n<li>As a part of the <strong>No More MCIs Coalition,<\/strong> <strong>700 families from 8 buildings<\/strong> are organizing to stop almost <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.villagevoice.com\/news\/this-loophole-allows-landlords-to-enact-massive-rent-increases-9365733\">$7 million in permanent rent increases<\/a><\/strong>!<\/li>\n<li><strong>The Parkash Tenant Coalition<\/strong> took on the \u201c<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.villagevoice.com\/news\/incinerator-rats-predatory-equity-and-other-horror-stories-from-nycs-worst-landlord-8849193\">#1 Worst Landlord in NYC<\/a><\/strong>\u201d pressuring him to <strong>meet with 120 tenants<\/strong> and sign an agreement to do repairs!<\/li>\n<li>raised <strong>$35,000<\/strong> at our weekly legal clinics with Bronx Legal Services and a third of them joined CASA!<\/li>\n<li>We held a <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/CASABronx\/posts\/1057406144373041\">Block Party for Jerome Ave<\/a><\/strong> where <strong>600 residents<\/strong> attended to learn and commit to fighting for the future of Jerome Ave!<\/li>\n<li>We <strong>delivered <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/CASABronx\/posts\/1184601684986819\">7,000 petitions<\/a><\/strong> to the Mayor in support of Right to Counsel!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>And SO MUCH MORE!<\/p>\n<p>The Bronx is our home and we will not stop fighting for a Bronx where we can all live with dignity and respect.
