For most of its history, the Rent Guidelines Board (a mayor-appointed board of 9 members consisting of 5 public representatives, 2 landlord representatives, and 2 tenant representatives) routinely set unaffordable rents for the over 1 million rent-stabilized NYC tenants. CASA began organizing to fight against rent increases in <\/span>2013<\/span><\/a>, and made history in <\/span>2015<\/span><\/a>, and again in <\/span>2016<\/span><\/a> with the first rent freeze for rent-stabilized tenants in the history of New York City!\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Due to CASA\u2019s organizing, the Rent Guidelines Board also began holding in-person hearings in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, and Manhattan in the evening. We turn out in the hundreds <\/span>every<\/span><\/a> single<\/span><\/a> year<\/span><\/a> to fight for the lowest rents possible, in the face of strong opposition from landlords and anti-tenant Mayor Eric Adams.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
