Youth Advisor – Young Adult Opportunity Initiative (YAOI)

DESCRIPTION

JOB SUMMARY: The Youth Advisor will provide support to participants ages 17-24 from the start of programming throughout their entire enrollment. Responsible for a caseload of 12-14 participants providing initial assessments, short-term case-management, goal setting, referral services and the coordination of program activities. Mutual-Aid group facilitation. The Youth Advisor will also work closely with Y.A.O.I staff in providing follow-up support services, and any post-secondary placement assistance such employment, education and vocational training assistance.

Job Duties include but not limited to:

  • Conducting intake interviews with participants & counseling youth, both one-to-one and in groups.
  • Empowering youth in helping them achieve their goals, through regular meetings using a strength-based task-oriented approach.
  • Facilitating weekly peer-group meetings of the core participants.
  • Conducting outreach to neighborhood youth who would benefit from participation.
  • Strengthening our network of community partnerships with expert resource organizations which can provide needed services in health-care, education, vocational training, employment, housing, etc.
  • Provide support and a safety net for participants, as appropriate and advocating on their behalf.
  • Capture, maintain and track program and participant information records and enter data and case notes in Salesforce System.
  • Participate in staff-development trainings provided through our network and partnerships, and representing the program in settings with partners and colleagues, as appropriate.
  • Perform other duties as reasonably requested.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

Candidates must be fully vaccinated against Covid-19 to be considered for employment. Proof of vaccination is required upon hiring. Applicants may seek medical or religious exemption from this requirement in accordance with applicable law.

  • Ability to relate to persons of diverse backgrounds.
  • B.A and 2-3 years of experience working with young adults in a community-based non-mandated setting.
  • Counseling and case-management experience.
  • Bilingual skills (Spanish-English) are a plus.
  • Commitment to creating a non-judgmental welcoming program environment and culture where youth are empowered to meet high expectations and supported through positive youth development interactions and interventions.
  • Hours of Operation: Monday-Friday 9-5 PM.

Employment is at will and employees will undergo 45- and 90-day check-ins during their 90-day probationary period.
