Temporary Porter

DESCRIPTION

JOB SUMMARY: The porter will be responsible for the daily cleaning and safety conditions of all assigned facilities and performing assigned tasks. This person is responsible to clean, performing groundskeeping activities including snow removal, and performing routine maintenance activities painting, minor plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and mechanical repairs. The porter is responsible to ensure program set-ups are completed ahead of time.

Job Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Supports and enhances a culture that respects and honors diversity, invests in professional development, and encourages self-care.
  • Arranges special setup for events as programs are required.
  • Sweep and mop floors.
  • Empty trash cans and garbage areas.
  • Thoroughly clean and disinfect all surfaces including laboratory equipment.
  • Use cleaning solutions to remove stains and clean surfaces.
  • Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors.
  • Restock toiletries.
  • Apply wax to coat floors and buff.
  • Clean and service restrooms with mops and disinfectants.
  • Move furniture for scrubbing and waxing.
  • Identify and report possible repairs.
  • Shovel snow from sidewalks and sprinkle salt on surfaces.
  • Will be required to work during inclement weather
  • Will be required to extra hours and overtime as needed to prepare the building
  • Perform other duties as reasonably requested.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Ability to relate to persons of diverse backgrounds
  • Must be able to exercise independent judgement.
  • Must be flexible and adaptable.
  • Ability to understand and carry out simple oral and written directions; and to read, write, understand and communicate in English.
  • Working knowledge of building cleaning practices, supplies and equipment: familiarity with the operation and maintenance of building systems and ability to perform a variety of routine maintenance tasks.
  • Must be thorough, dependable, motivated self-starter.
  • Ability to successfully pass a DOE criminal background check and fingerprinting.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Employment is at will and employees will undergo 45- and 90-day check-ins during their 90-day probationary period.
