Assistant Group Leader – New Settlement After School Program at Mount Eden Children’s Academy (MECA)/PS 555

PROGRAM OVERVIEW: New Settlement’s After School Program at the Mount Eden Children’s Academy (MECA)/PS 555,

Monday-Friday, from 2:30pm – 6:00pm, Grades 1st-5th

 PROGRAM DESCRIPTION & OVERVIEW: Guided by a Group Leader, the Assistant Group Leader will work with one group of 20 children organized by grade levels 1-5. The Assistant Group leader will support the Group Leader in teaching, nurturing and encouraging our children to perform at a high standard by setting a positive, engaging and fun tone. The responsibilities include helping to plan and lead quality activities and trips; helping to ensure the safety of students at all times; helping to anticipate and resolve conflict; assisting the Group Leader with reporting all incidents accurately and on time; helping supervise snack and homework time; maintaining the overall condition of the classroom; collaborating with the Group Leader, other after-school staff and teachers; interacting with parents at dismissal; and participating in staff meetings and workshops. This position reports to the Group Leader and Program Director.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:  Assistant Group Leaders must be at least 16 year of age and have a high school diploma or equivalent; or be currently and successfully enrolled in in a high school program. Must have a genuine love of children and a personal commitment to making a difference in their lives; be dependable, outgoing and have an enthusiastic personality and enjoy working with others; have prior experience working with children; have the ability to carry out instructions to implement middle school level activities; and be committed to working as part of a team.

 

COMPENSATION AND HOURS:  $ 15.00 per hour. Must work 17.5 hours per week during the academic school year, including specific days during school holidays and must commit to program for a full academic year (Sept-June); must participate in trainings, workshops, professional development and staff meetings for approximately 30 hours throughout the program year.
