Assistant Dance Instructor – Community Center

DESCRIPTION JOB SUMMARY: Working closely with the Lead Dance Instructor, the Assistant Dance Instructor will provide dance instruction to girls and young women aged 8-young adult in two groups: Next Level Dance Juniors and Seniors. Current meeting days are Thursdays 6-8:30 (Juniors) and Saturdays, 12:00-4 pm (Seniors), but additional time and days will be added for rehearsal prior to performances and special events, as well as for retreats and trips to attend dance performances.

Job Duties include but not limited to:

  • Attend all classes, rehearsals, trips and performances, advance arrangements are made.
  • Lead warm up with students, including physical conditioning and supervision of students’ technique and alignment.
  • Record attendance for classes, rehearsals and trips.
  • Assist with the teaching of choreography.
  • Assist with leading team-building exercises, and lead by example – demonstrating clear, respectful communication and modeling collaboration skills for youth.
  • Support students in developing their own choreography
  • Assist the Lead Instructor in developing choreography
  • Supervise classes and trips, maintaining participant safety, and upholding a supportive and inclusive environment for all students using a positive youth development model
  • Participate in monthly staff meetings
  • Participate in program/agency staff development workshops when scheduled (required), as well as professional development in the fields of dance and youth development
  • Maintain friendly but professional boundaries with program participants, especially peers close in age (or with whom you might have worked/performed, prior to being hired).
  • Perform in the semi-annual showcases, special events (such as Momma’s Hip Hop Kitchen) and as part of the Elite traveling company if needed.
  • Perform other duties as reasonably requested.

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Must be vaccinated or have letter of exemption.
  • Must have 1+ years dance choreography experience.
  • Bi lingual a plus but not a requirement
  • Ability to work Thursdays 6-8:30 (Juniors) and Saturdays, 12:00-4 (Seniors), but additional time and days will be added for rehearsal prior to performances and special events.
  • Ability to relate to persons of diverse backgrounds
