Group Leader – Learning Labs

New Settlement is operating Learning Labs, an initiative funded by the Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) to complement blended learning, in-person services for students in grade six through eight from CMSP 327. Learning Labs will provide small group academic and enrichment activities to students on the days in which students are not receiving in-person services in school.

Located at 1484 Inwood Avenue, Learning Labs will operate Monday through Friday, from 7:30am to 3:30pm. Activities include Remote Instruction, Literacy, Physical Fitness, Civic Engagement, Social Emotional Supports and STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and math activities).
The program will follow all New York State Department of Health COVID 19 Safety and Health guidelines.

Pay: $17.00/hour

Must work 35 hours per week in accordance with the NYC academic calendar year (Sept-June); must participate in trainings, workshops, professional development and staff meetings.
GROUP LEADERS will supervise one group of no more than 10 children based on their classroom cohorts. Group leaders are responsible planning and leading remote instruction as determined by CMSP 327 and enrichment activities; ensuring the safety of students at all times; anticipating and resolving conflict; reporting all incidents accurately and on time; supervising snack and remote learning; maintaining the overall safety and health of the classroom as established by NYS COVID Health and Safety guidelines; collaborating with teachers; interacting with parents at dismissal and participating in staff meetings and workshops.

GROUP LEADER QUALIFICATIONS: Hold an Associate’s Degree and have at least two years’ experience working with school age children or have a high school diploma or GED and equivalent 5 years supervised experience working with a school age child care program/center. Applicants must have experience developing and leading middle-school level activities for children, preferably in an educational environment (school, after-school program, camp or day care center); be sensitive to diverse cultures; have experience with and knowledge of youth development practices and group work, ensuring safety of program participants; have knowledge of a specific content area; have strong planning and organizational skills; and to work in a team setting. All Group Leaders will need to hold current first aid/CPR certification or be willing to acquire certification within the first 3 months of employment. English and Spanish bilingual a plus.

BENEFITS: Project-hire employees are not eligible for company benefits but under New York City’s Earned Safe and Sick Time Act, they are eligible for up to a total of 40 hours of safe and sick leave every calendar year.
